Fenny was truly in flower over the weekend of 22/23 June with bunting decorating the village and gorgeous gardens to visit, lunches and teas in the Village Hall and the Village Violin School providing tuneful background entertainment.
There was music from 1.30 till just after 4.30 and small groups, larger groups, quartets, duets and solos played many of the pieces we have been learning this year. Exam candidates had an opportunity to try out performing some of their pieces before their exams next week.
Good luck to Rebecca (Grade 6), Dan (Grade 5), Laura (Grade 5), Alice (Grade 4), Maisy (Initial)
Thank you to Natalie and Emily H for a gorgeous performance of Classic B and P along with Amy (cello). Burcin played Ladies in Lavender beautifully (stretching my sight reading piano accompanying skills to their limit!) and Rebecca played Mascagni’s Intermezzo very well. Both pieces go up onto the violin high wire and Burcin and Rebecca handled the technical difficulties really well.
Maisy loved playing her pieces and wanted to play them all. Many times! She makes a great sound already. Lydia and Margot joined Maisy for a reprise of some of the Beginners’ pieces from last week’s concert at Leamington Festival.
Alice played two of her exam pieces very confidently, Neapolitan Song and a Presto by JC Bach.
Mila brought her viola for quartets - what a competent and versatile player she is! And Dan played his Cossack Dance, with a beautiful sound and great style and in almost all the groups.
I did notice that Dan and Charlie did disappear off for an extended appointment with cake. There is photographic evidence….
Emily R played La Rejouissance from the Fireworks Music with Andrew (cello) with a fabulous sound and excellent tuning. She was joined by Laura, Anna and Olivia for their signature quartet of the term, Telemann’s Adagio-Allegro in D major. Laura played Romance from the Gadfly and Kodaly’s Intermezzo.
Natalie gave us a fine performance of Marcia – a piece she has been learning for only a very short time and it was a good opportunity to show the benefits of putting your achievements out there.
Emily H played Showstopper really well, Andrew commented on the strong ending she gives to this piece and how important it is to end a performance convincingly.
I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone!!
I was very happy with this event and thank you to Amy, Chandima and Andrew for playing and also to the parents, as ever, wonderful in the way you support the children.
