I am delighted to write that, following the heats for Banbury Young Musician of the Year yesterday, all our entries were chosen to play at the finals on 1st February.
Laura had a very early start at 8.45am playing Carl Bohm’s Introduction and Polonaise, in which she really did herself justice. Frances accompanied her on the piano too. I just turned the pages!!
Chloe and Emily were much praised by the adjudicators for their performance of Vivaldi’s slow movement from the Concerto for Two Mandolins, arranged for violins.
I can’t commend the Seniors too highly for their impeccable playing and professional behaviour in their class. They are a deserving addition to the final of this year’s competition, despite the fact that it is a class for 12 – 15 year olds, and many of them are still under 12. I am extremely proud of their achievement. Well done!
It’s going to be a busy few weeks for Village Violin School. In addition to the Young Musician Competition, which is not yet over for us, we are all preparing for the Concert and Cake event on 8th February at which both groups, All-Comers and Seniors will play. The concert, in the Village Hall, starts at 3pm and is followed by tea and cake.
Deborah will have tickets for this (please get them early) and the money raised will go towards the Church roof repair.
So, as ever, the children need to keep practising their violins every day to maintain their excellent standard and to aspire to even better musicianship. Thank you for encouraging and supporting them. For me, it is a privilege to work together and the young violinists never fail to surprise me. I learn as much from them as I hope they do from me.
